From Recruitment-Only to Full-Service Consultancy

TRL Consultants had quietly built profitable consulting and training arms — but their name, "The Recruiters Lounge," told prospects they only did staffing. We rebranded them from the ground up, shifting their lead mix from 90% recruitment to a near-even 52/48 split in just 9 months.

The Challenge

A name that quietly told prospects to look elsewhere

TRL Consultants had a brand identity prison. For years they operated as The Recruiters Lounge — a respected agency placing candidates in mid-level to senior roles. But quietly, over time, they'd built two other genuinely profitable service lines: business consulting and corporate training. The problem was the name itself. "The Recruiters Lounge" told every prospect exactly one thing: we only do recruitment.

The pattern repeated constantly. A VP of Operations searching for business process consulting would find TRL, see the name, assume it was a staffing agency, and never click through. A corporate training lead who'd heard about TRL through a referral couldn't find any mention of training on the site and moved on to a competitor instead.

The numbers confirmed it: 90% of inbound leads were recruitment-related versus just 10% for everything else. Website traffic for consulting-related keywords was near zero. Training inquiries trickled in at zero to one per month. Surveyed clients described them as "strong recruiters" who they "didn't know did consulting" at all — and the sales team's frustration was mounting, fielding the wrong calls again and again.

"We were known for recruitment — which was great. But we wanted to be known for so much more. Every time I introduced myself as 'The Recruiters Lounge,' I immediately lost the chance to talk about consulting or training. The name was killing us."

— Osman Farooq, Founder, TRL Consultants

The Approach

This was a full-stack transformation touching brand, website, SEO, social, and paid ads — all realigned around a new positioning. It started with the name itself: we presented over 20 options, tested them with existing clients and staff, and landed on TRL Consultants — keeping the "TRL" abbreviation to preserve brand equity while adding "Consultants" to signal the broader scope. A clean, modern wordmark replaced the recruitment-coded logo, paired with a new tagline: "Talent. Strategy. Growth."

The website was rebuilt from the ground up so recruitment, consulting, and training carried equal visual weight — no more consulting and training buried under "Other Services." Each service line got its own dedicated landing pages, its own lead capture form, and its own featured testimonials. Underneath it, we rebuilt the SEO strategy entirely around consulting and training keywords that had never been targeted before, backed by a blog strategy and internal linking between related services.

Social media shifted to a deliberate weekly mix — recruitment content alongside consulting frameworks and training highlights — positioning TRL as a multi-service consultancy rather than a staffing agency. Paid ad budget flipped its allocation entirely: from a recruitment-heavy spend to 50% consulting and 30% training, with surgically targeted LinkedIn campaigns aimed at CEOs, COOs, and operations directors, and Google Search ads capturing high-intent consulting and training searches.

The Most Important Metric: Lead Quality

The Most Important Metric: Lead Quality

The headline numbers matter, but the deeper shift was in what those leads actually meant. Before the rebrand, 9 out of 10 inquiries were recruitment calls, and the sales team spent 80% of their time on lower-margin recruitment deals — consulting and training business arrived only by accident or referral.

After the rebrand, nearly half of all leads now ask about consulting or training specifically — deals that carry higher margins and longer contracts than recruitment ever did. Recruitment hasn't disappeared; it's simply no longer the only conversation TRL is capable of having. Employee morale improved as consultants and trainers finally felt represented by the brand they worked under, referrals started flowing specifically for consulting work, and existing recruitment clients began cross-selling into training packages — a virtuous cycle that kept reinforcing itself.

"The day we launched the new brand, a CEO called and asked about our business consulting services — not recruitment. That had literally never happened before. The name change alone opened doors we didn't even know were closed."
